Lest We Forget: thoughts from a grateful mother

Earlier this week I took my son to the Sphinx War Memorial at Bobbin Head.

A memorial to all who fell in World War One, it was carved by a returned soldier who was suffering the after effects of gas and the trauma of war.

As I watched my son run around in the sunshine - happy, free and safe - I couldn't help but think that the life he leads is surely what the soldiers fought and died for.

I don't believe in ghosts but I hope some of the soldiers the memorial remembers saw him too and know how grateful I am to them for my children's wonderful life.
